BAT WEEK 2023 OCTOBER 24-31

Woodland Park Zoo

Educators! Bat Week is coming up - engage your students in learning all about bats!

Woodland Park Zoo is planning an exciting week of distance learning opportunities for teachers, educators and their students for Bat Week 2023 (October 24-31). Join us for a week full of presentations, games, crafts and other batty activities! We’ll be featuring some resources and conversations with our friends at Bat Northwest. Do a bat craft, learn how to bust myths about bats, and come see how to make your garden bat-friendly.

Bat Week resources are available with a free Discovery Den account. Discovery Den is Woodland Park Zoo’s free, continually-updating resource library by educators, for educators! https://discoveryden.zoo.org/learn

WDFW/WCS-CA Probiotic Project

In 2022, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and Wildlife Conservation Society – Canada set up research sites across Washington to test an experimental WNS probiotic prophylaxis. The project is exploring whether applying a dust of beneficial microbes to bat roosts can help the bats survive the effects of WNS. In 2023, Woodland Park Zoo joined as a project partner to help with volunteer coordination and project communications - read more on how we are all working together to protect Washington's bats.
